Theatrecian is recognized as one of India's most prolific English theatre groups. We are focused on promoting theatre & cinema, structured in a manner to serve as a platform for budding talents in performing arts.

Our main aim is to develop and encourage talents, especially the young adults, to showcase & learn all types of cultural and literary activities such as Theatre, Cinema, Music, Literature, Painting, Dance, Debate, Script writing, Photography, Videography, Cinematography, Journalism, and Mass Communication.

Plays

Theatrecian has in its repertoire a wide genre of plays- including Comedies, Thrillers and Absurd Theatre.

Comedy: The most popular genre of performing arts, and by far the most difficult. Theatrecian has presented rib ticklers like Neil Simon, David Ives and Anton Chekov, Bjornsterne Bjornson, and William Shakespeare to name a few. We present comedy plays with intelligent and/or dark humour.

Thriller: An evening of murder mystery is the form of an Agatha Christie thrillers or an Ayn Rand classic is what makes Theatrecian popular amongst the 'suspense drama' loving audience.

Absurd Theatre: A genre of theatre popularised by playwrights like Samuel Becket, Edward Albee, Harold Pinter, Tom Stoppard, absurd theatre has its own following and catchment.

Originals, Customised plays and Adaptations: We have on the team published and respected playwrights whose scripts have won awards nationwide. Tathagata Chowdhury's 'Mumbai Zoo' and 'There's something about Nemo' to name a couple. We also design customized plays & events for supper theatre, street theatre and adapt plays from foreign and regional Indian languages into English and vice versa.

Workshops

Theatrecian workshops are of two types: theatre workshops oriented towards performing arts, and management workshops for the corporate sector.

The Theatrecian performing arts workshops are structured to recognize talents and provide them a platform to showcase the same. From learning stage basics to fine tuning their skills under supervision of some of the best names in the industry, our workshops are a stepping stone to the beautiful world of glamour and show business. Patrons learn acting, stage movement, script writing, voice throw, diction, presentation and other nuances of theatre and cinema.

The Theatrecian Corporate workshops are structured to bridge gaps between white collar and blue collared employees. Time management, Meeting dead lines, Team Building, Stress Buster and such corporate essentials are achieved by Theatrecian Corporate Workshops.

Film Club and Film Making

Theatrecian has ventured in the world of cinema in a unique fashion. We are showcasing World Cinema modern classics, in association with Lumiere Movies. And its not just the movie, but the experience on offer. We showcase these films at unique venues- lounge bars, homes of socialites, prestigious heritage properties.. It is our endeavor to create a film viewing experience like no other.

The Theatrecian Film Club offers the best of World Cinema in the form of rare Loiuse Malle collection and contemporary classics like 'Turtles Can Fly' and 'The Orphanage', 'Antonia', 'Goodbye Bafana' and close to hundred such titles. Exclusive for members of the Theatrecian Film Club in Kolkata, we screen a rare classic once each week.

We're also providing a platform to young film-makers to not only learn but also make their films, and a platform by means of our film club to showcase these films to a captive audience.
